In 2011 Sudan – which was the biggest country in Africa – has been separated into two states. This came as a result of long years of conflict between Northern and Southern Sudanese people. Still the civil war is going on in both new states with more complications and increasing numbers of conflict areas. What are the cultural roots of that conflict? How is the colonial history of Sudan affecting its present? How geography, history and culture put Sudan in the middle of different conflict systems?
